NOFEC began in the late 1990's as a result of the caregiving experiences of its founder, Gail R. Mitchell, which led to her desire to assist others on their caregiving journeys. She began hosting discussions for caregivers in online chat rooms. She founded the 'Empowering Caregivers' website, a community for family caregivers, fostering hope and providing guidance.
